America Free of TV

If we could unplug all the tv's and electronic devices in America, I believe that our children would be healthier, better educated, and more independant. Children today don't get enough exercise, are slipping academically, and are showing less and less self motivation.  

            Firstly, the lack of television would potentially increase physical activity among children. On average, kids today spend at least three hours a day watching tv, and seldom get any kind of exercise. Ever since tv became main stream kids have spent less and less time outside. It used to be common for kids all around the neighbor hood to get together and play a game of baseball, basket ball, or football. However, now kids get together for video game parties where they spend hours upon hours sitting in front of a tv. This prolonged exposure to video games can be damaging to a child's eye sight and prevents the child from being physically active. Childhood obesity has become a major problem in America and I don't think it's mear coincidence that kids are watching more and more tv these days.

            Secondly, grades of American children are slipping and falling behind compared to other countries. Tv is one of the causes to this downword trend in education. When kids get home from school they want to sit on the couch and just watch tv instead of doing home work. Granted, no one wants to do home work right after they get home from school but tv isn't the best choice. Kids have spent all day sitting in a desk and staring at a white board or computer screen and they need to get some physical activity, instead they watch tv. It is not healthy physically or mentally to be sitting and staring all day. Also, it is so easy for kids to get distracted by tv, when trying to study or do home work. Just one push of the tv remote can derail an entire evening of studying.

           Lastly, the epademic of tv watching has made kids less independant. Children today are sruggling with interacting socially because their main model for daily living are fictional characters on tv. Tv show's create unrealistic situations and some kids don't realise that these situations are unprobable and ridiculous. Kids today would rather sit in front of a tv than go out into the world and explore. They stay in their for most of the day and this trend is producing kids who are more timid and don't know what to do when they enter the real world.

         Overall, I think America would benefit from the lack of tv's. This is not because tv's themselves are bad, but because kids don't use self-control. Tv in moderation is fine and can even help develop creativity, but kids have become to dependant on this electronic baby sitter.                                                                                                                                       

        

 

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec

Lautrec would paint advertisements for pubs and businesses that he liked to frequent. His purpose in creating this painting is to advertise a business that is most likely a pub. Even though Lautrec came from a wealthy family he liked to spend his time in the shadier parts of the city, and he wanted to support his favorite places by painting advertisements for them. His audience was most likely the lower class citizens of Paris. This advertisement would be seen on the street by many people and so Lautrec threw some red and yellow into his painting in order to catch people's attention. This painting would have stood out against the dark streets of Paris's red light district. The genre is a painting and so is the medium. This painting appears to be done in oils and standard paint. The stance of this piece of art is very bold. The man in the painting looks very confident and imposing. The splash of colors gives the painting the element of being bold and easily seen. The painting seems unremarkable, but it is memorable and would the people who saw it would have been able to relate to it.

Why I Chose Wright State

I decided to attend Wright State for several reasons. I had heard from several people that Wright State was over all a good school and that they received a good education from the university. I got the impression that the teachers enjoyed working at Wright State and that they did there best to help the students succeed.
I also live only about twenty minutes away from Wright State, so I’m able to live at home, which saves me a lot of money. I also really like living at home, because my parents are pretty awesome. I enjoy the commute from my house and by living at home I’m able to stay in contact with a lot of my friends and members of my church. I like living in Xenia and the ability to go to a good school and stay home was appealing to me. Another reason I chose to attend Wright State was that when I took a tour of the campus, everyone was very friendly and helpful. It seemed that everyone who works at Wright State enjoys it. I also found out that several of the faculty and staff went to Wright State when they were in college. The financial aid department was also very helpful and helped me get everything set financially. The over all helpful mood is a major reason why I wanted to go to this university.
Wright State is also affordable and that was a big concern of mine. The low tuition combined with the fact that I can live at home made going to Wright State an affordable option for me. I was also able to get a scholarship from the university, which helped a lot.
I picked Wright State because it is good academically, close to home, a fun place to study, and affordable.
